Worshipful Company of Poulters scholarship for Eleanor, 21

Posted 5 February 2015

Warwickshire Young Farmer Eleanor Kane has secured backing from the Worshipful Company of Poulters as she prepares for a career in poultry production.

Eleanor, 21, from Shipston-on-Stour, is a final year BSc (Hons) Agriculture with Animal Science student at Harper Adams University. Her scholarship is worth £4,500 and the Company will also provide mentoring.

Eleanor, a former pupil of Stratford-Upon-Avon Girls Grammar and Chipping Campden School, said: “It is a privilege to be awarded this scholarship and I would like to thank the Worshipful Company of Poulters for this opportunity. I plan to use this opening to gain more experience in the breeders sector of the poultry industry with the hope of forging a career in breeders.”

Eleanor completed her sandwich work placement year with Faccenda Foods. Her placement gave her experience of the rearing and breeder farms, hatcheries and broiler farms.

“I plan to go into broiler breeders after graduation.  First I plan to work on a breeder farm to gain more experience and then hopefully look to work for one of the breeding companies or the breeding side of an integrated company,” added Eleanor who was raised on a mixed farm comprising of sheep, store cattle, a shoot and some arable land.

In her spare time Eleanor is an active Young Farmer, competing in stock-judging, and plays netball for the Harper Adams returners team.
