An A-Level student has been working towards a prestigious science award thanks to support from Harper Adams University.

Harvey Boughey, who studies at Adams' Grammar School in Newport, is working on a research project as part of his application for the British Science Association's CREST Award scheme.

He hopes that completing the Gold level award will help to enhance his personal statement when he applies to university.

The CREST Award schemes are a range of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) enrichment activities aimed at inspiring 5-19 year-olds. The top award is Gold level and allows able students aged 16-19 to conduct real research projects.

For his project, Harvey has been investigating different drying methods for bees, prior to them being used with a scanning electron microscope.

He has been assisted by the university's laboratory staff and technicians.
