Tom Whitfield, 22, from Hexham, Northumberland, received more than his first-class honours degree when he graduated from Harper Adams University at the end of September. Tom won the Frontier Agriculture Trophy after achieving the highest overall grades of any student on the BSc Agriculture with Crop Management course. Agriculture courses manager Dr Russell Readman said: “Tom demonstrated excellent performance in his final year studies, achieving a first class honours degree.
“Tom’s Honours Research Project investigated the use of biofumigation to control rhizoctonia solani and was an excellent piece of work. Tom has taken up a graduate position with Hutchinsons as a Trainee Agronomist.”
