Kelleigh Green, from Southend-on-Sea, recently graduated from Harper Adams University with a Master of Science degree in Entomology and as winner of the Royal Entomological Society Award for excellence in entomology.
Professor of Entomology, Simon Leather, said: “Kelleigh’s academic performance was consistently excellent throughout the year. She was placed first or second in all her taught modules. Her research project examining the interactions between landscape complexity and the interactions between natural enemies and crop pests was awarded the highest mark of all the entomology projects. She was awarded the MSc with Distinction.”
Kelleigh, who completed her undergraduate studies at Oxford University, and who has taken up a position at Oxitec, said: “I am incredibly honoured to have received the RES 2015 Award. It would not have been possible for me to undertake the MSc in Entomology had it not been for the RES Scholarship and I am still overwhelmed thinking about how my life has been altered by the chances I have been given.
“My year at Harper Adams has been filled with new experience and so much learning, and I am truly grateful that Professor Leather and other lecturers were willing to share their new knowledge with new entomologists and integrated pest management students. It really is a special academic who pours so much of themselves into teaching future generations and into teaching us with so much enthusiasm!
“I am thoroughly enjoying my job at Oxitec and absolutely owe this career to the MSc in Entomology.”
