Carl Capewell, 23, from Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, won the JCB Managing the Environment Prize when he graduated from Harper Adams University in September. The prize is awarded to the final year Honours Degree student who displays the best all round performance in terms of academic excellence and contribution to the countryside and the environment.
Lecturer Simon Irvin said: “Carl achieved a First Class degree in Countryside and Environmental Management which is a CIEEM accredited course. As a keen ornithologist, Carl has undertaken a lot of voluntary work within the public sector and is an accomplished volunteer for many organisations.
“While on placement, Carl worked for The RSPB Coombes and Churnet Valley Reserves as an assistant warden, gaining experience and skills, particularly in the surveying, mitigation and protected species work. This invaluable practical experience combined with his commitment to his academic studies has enabled him to secure work within this highly competitive area.
“Carl is a worthy winner of this award for his academic excellence and contribution to the countryside and the environment.”
