Isabel Thompson received the FdSc Countryside Management Excellent Achievement Award, for the best performance by a FdSc Countryside Management Student. Isabel, 21, from Ely, Cambridgeshire, undertook her placement with the National Trust at Carding Mill Valley here in Shropshire. She worked as a full time volunteer ranger undertaking a wide range of tasks associated with the management of a site which is both a key visitor destination and a sensitive upland habitat.
Course Manager Simon Irvin, who presented the award, said: “Although quiet at first, Isabel fitted in really well and very quickly became a valuable member of the team there, quickly growing in confidence as well as experience. Isabel chose to continue to undertake some volunteer work after her placement finished and set an excellent example to the students she then helped support in the early days of their placement.” Academically Isabel has consistently achieved a high average mark in each year of her studies gaining a Merit in her FdSc Countryside Management course. Isabel is a worthy winner of the Excellent Achievement Award.”
