Sophia's poster won at the AES conference

A research poster produced at Harper Adams University was last week selected as the best at the 90th annual conference of the Agricultural Economics Society.

Student He Yaquin, known as Sophia, spent a year at Harper Adams as a visiting student from the College of Economics and Management at Huazhong Agricultural University, China.

Working in collaboration with Professor Emeritus Brian Revell, she conducted research on the “Effects of weather on oilseed rape production in China: Future implications of climate change”.

Professor Revell said: “Sofia’s poster was chosen as the best by the new Society President, Professor Tim Lloyd. She was unable to attend the conference as she has just submitted her PhD thesis in China, but she is an excellent student and I am both proud of her and delighted for her.

“We are now working to produce a paper for publication on the topic.”

Sofia’s poster summarises her work looking at the effects of precipitation, temperature sensitivity, seasonal variations, and labour input on OSR yields.

The research was supported by the China National Scholarship Council, the National OSR Industry Project and the China National Sciences Foundation.

The Agricultural Economics Society is one of the world's leading associations of professional and academic agricultural economists. Its annual conference was held at the University of Warwick.
