Posted 30 August 2019
Harper Adams University’s Professor Mark Rutter has been elected Junior Vice-President of the International Society for Applied Ethology (ISAE).
Professor Rutter has been a member of the society for 33 years, which promotes the presentation and discussion of the advances of applied animal behaviour science and academic education to help create a better balance between animal welfare and the requirements of humans from animals.
The ISAE is split into eleven different international regions and Professor Rutter will oversee the Society’s regional activities for the next two years. It is expected that Prof. Rutter will be elected as the ISAE President in 2021, and then as Senior Vice President in 2023.
Professor Rutter is excited to give something back to the society which has given him so much for the past three decades.
He said: “The ISAE, specifically the congresses, are great for networking and helps you keep in touch with other people in the society across the world. It helps the University to increase its profile in the field of applied animal behaviour.”
Harper Adams University’s lecturer in Animal Science Dr Gemma Charlton is the current membership secretary of the ISAE, a post formerly held by Professor Rutter in the 1990s, who added: “Harper Adams has a prominent role within the society and is contributing to EU policy with the International Organisation for Animal Health.
“In two years, thanks to ISAE funding, I will be going to Brussels to feedback on a variety of topics. That’s the main thing the ISAE does; bringing people together to share knowledge.”
