MACHINERY MAD MCKNIGHT GETS SCHOLARSHIP

George McKnight, from Wigtownshire, has gained a prestigious Entrance Award to study at Harper Adams University College, Shropshire, in September. He will receive the £500 award when his course in Agricultural Engineering begins.

George has had a strong interest in machinery since he was growing up and aspires to work for a world-renowned manufacturing company, such as JCB. When his father diversified into a plant hire contracting business there was always a wide range of machines available to feed Mr McKnight's desire to work with machinery.

George has always been involved in the repair and maintenance of various types of machinery for sectors such as agriculture and construction. He has had work experience as a general assistant at an Agricultural Engineering firm and feels it gave him the chance to expand on his knowledge of machinery.

Mr McKnight is a keen rugby player and plays at 1st team level for his local club. At Harper Adams University College he would like to get involved with badminton and golf as well as rugby. George claims he is unafraid of hard work and will be an asset to Harper Adams.

Richard Jopling, Head of Liaison at the University College said: “George’s various work experience and his plans to contribute fully to university life were noted.”

Harper Adams University College is the UK’s largest, specialist centre of Higher Education for the land and food based industries. It currently has around 1800 students on undergraduate and postgraduate courses, research and graduates.
