    Abstract

    What was the provision of agricultural education from the 19th century to 1939, what were the drivers of that provision, and what was drawn from earlier and contemporary activity in Europe and North America?

    Description

    Carrie de Silva is registered on a part time PhD with Sheffield Hallam University under Dr Nicola Verdon.

    The aim of the research is to analyse the development and impact of agricultural education in England from the mid-nineteenth century to 1939.

    To inform this analysis, the research will seek to establish:

    what agricultural education existed in England up to 1939

    • the main drivers to the provision and expansion of agricultural education and how they translated into government policy and other initiatives
    • whether the provision, and the take up of that provision, met policy aims
    • how the earlier and contemporary activity in Europe and North America was drawn on
