Study Skills

This section aims to help you succeed in your studies by developing further your skills in finding and using information.

If you need help with how to log on or how to find a particular piece of information, book or journal please go to our Finding Information section.

To use information successfully in your work you need a good understanding of:

  • the right sort of information for your particular purpose
  • where is the best place to search for that sort of information
  • how to search effectively so that you don’t waste time and that you find the best information
  • how to decide whether a piece of information is worth using – evaluation
  • how to use the information in your work

The different pages within this section will help you achieve this understanding.

Information Skills ...knowing when and why you need information, where to find it and how to evaluate, use and communicate it in an ethical manner
