First Farmers Market at Harper Adams
Posted 13 August 2010
Harper Adams University College will be bustling with fresh produce and locally produced goods when it hosts its first Farmers Market on September 5.
Known primarily for its quality teaching and plough to plate ethos, the Shropshire-based campus will be welcoming residents from Edgmond and the surrounding parishes to sample fresh farm produce from 10am until 2pm.
Stallholders include Ludlow Vineyard, Barlow Nurseries, My Cottage Kitchen, Mr Moyden’s Cheese, House of the Rising Bun and Titus Alpacas- who hope to bring some of their animals onto the campus. Harper Adams lecturer Simon Irvin is also showcasing his honey products.
Co-ordinator for the event, Sue Henderson, said: “We plan to have around 30 stallholders here at Harper Adams, selling the widest possible range of produce, straight from the farm gate.
“It presents a great opportunity for people to come and buy quality food and crafts, while supporting local small businesses and their community.”
The event, which is sponsored by Anglo Beef Processors (Shrewsbury) and Pork Farms Ltd, will also give visitors an opportunity to view some of the recent developments on campus. This includes the state of the art library and learning resources, as well as the recently opened West Midlands Regional Food Academy and Postgraduate Centre.
Refreshments will be available to purchase in the form of the Kaldi Café and parking will be free during the event. The exact location of the market will be signposted from the main campus entrance.
Sue added: “So far, the response to this venture has been very positive and we are hoping that the community will come and give their support to their local Farmers Market.
“There will be plenty to see including tractor trailer tours around the campus. There is also a free draw for those who fill in a feedback form with a £50 Harper Adams hamper up for grabs, full of local produce.”
