The first ever fencing match to be held at Harper Adams took place this week, seeing students from the University College take on members of Stone Fencing Club.
Teams were put forward in all three weapons – foil, sabre and epee, with a large range of skills demonstrated by both sides.
The match scores were –
Epee poule – Harper 3 wins vs Stone 6 wins
Epee relay – Harper 41 points vs Stone 45 points
Foil poule – Harper 5 wins vs Stone 11 wins
Sabre poule – Harper 4 wins vs Stone 5 wins
Sabre relay – Harper 45 points vs Stone 44 points.
Despite losing to Stone four matches to one, the Harper students still impressed with their excellent fencing skills.
20-year-old Alexander Watt fenced sabre and 21-year-old Eloise Collins fenced epee, both for the first time and winning their bouts.
Harper Adams Rural Property Management student, Andrew Lines, 18, has recently passed his Epee Level 1 coaching course and will now assist in training club members and lead beginner fencing groups.
