Harper potato expert speaks at industry event

Harper Adams resident Nematologist, Dr Pat Haydock, joined a host of European potato growers to give a seminar on controlling pests at British Potato 2011 (BP2011) last week.

The biennial event brings growers together with their suppliers and customers, with more than 150 exhibitors and a programme of seminars from industry experts.

Dr Haydock spoke about ‘using nematicides as part of an integrated approach for potato cyst nematode management: maximising control and minimising residues.’

To summarise, Dr Haydock, said: “It is really important that potato growers using nematicides as part of an integrated approach for nematode management optimise their use by correct product choice and field application technique. 

“This ensures minimal yield loss and nematode reproduction as well as reducing the incidence of nematicide residues in harvested potatoes.

“These are key objectives for economically sustainable potato production in nematode infested land”.
