Experts tested more than 400 varieties of sausages at Harper Adams University College last week, some of which were part of a national competition for British Sausage Week 2012.

Butchers supermarkets, and brands were invited by BPEX and the British Sausage Appreciation Society to enter the ‘Stand up for British bangers’ competition, with results being announced during British Sausage Week, November 5-11.

Judges from the Meat Trades Journal, Ladies in Pigs and special guests from the Guardian and Shropshire Star newspapers, travelled to Harper Adams in Shropshire, to analyse both the raw and cooked samples.

Keith Fisher, Butchery and Product Development Manager at BPEX, said: “This has been another highly successful year with tremendous support from the retail sector.

“The staff and facilities at Harper Adams also make a significant contribution to the success of the competition.

“The facilities at the Regional Food Academy on campus are ideally suited for holding the major competitions that BPEX Marketing run.”

British Sausage Week is now in its 15th year, and aims to highlight the enormous range and quality of sausages being produced today.

This year there will be a winner from each region plus trophies for supermarkets, pubs and brands.
