Harper Adams supports Climate Week
Posted 28 February 2013
Harper Adams University is pleased to be supporting Climate Week, March 4-10.
Staff and students are being encouraged to take part in a series of activities during the campaign, all of which contribute to reducing carbon emissions.
On Monday March 4, the theme is travel. The ‘Eco Driving Simulator’ from Global Action Plan is coming to campus and competitors will be given the chance to test their driving skills and fight for pole position on the leader board for the highest miles per gallon achieved.
Free breakfasts will be available to staff and students that opt to cycle to campus, and the bike hire and the car share schemes will also be actively promoted.
Tuesday is dedicated to water to see how much staff and students know about the water they use. Global Action Plan’s ‘Water Explorer’ will test their knowledge and give handy hints on how to reduce consumption.
Reduce, Reuse and Recycle is the theme for Wednesday March 6. The staff Harper Freecycle initiative is being brought to life in the staff common room and a student swop shop is being set up in the Faccenda Centre where staff and students can swop their unwanted items with each other.
Thursday is energy day and the ‘Big Switch off’. Staff are being encouraged to turn off all unnecessary equipment and lights at the end of the working day, while students have been tasked with switching off between 6-7pm. This will help them with the Student Energy Reduction Challenge which concludes at the end of March.
Finally, Monday March 11 sees guest speaker Nigel Larkin presenting a lunchtime seminar on using thermal imaging to identify heat loss in the home and office.
