New bursaries for students seeking meat and livestock careers

Students who plan to use their Harper Adams University degrees to build careers in the meat and livestock industries are invited to apply for bursaries worth up to £5,000 per year of study. 

The Butchers’ and Drovers’ Charitable Institution (BDCI) - a UK meat industry trade charity – is offering the bursaries which will be available to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. 

Ted Hoefling, BDCI treasurer said: “These awards are a new initiative from BDCI.  We hope they will help students who can make a difference in the industry.  We are delighted to be working with Harper Adams this year.”

The BDCI Bursary is open to all first or second year BSc or FdSc students whose course of study has a direct relevance for a future career in the meat and livestock industry.  

Bob Bansback, Visiting Professor in Agricultural Economics, said: “It’s great news that the BDCI has come to Harper Adams for its student bursary scheme – and encouragement for both students and staff.”

At postgraduate level, BDCI Bursaries will be awarded to students entering Harper Adams University to study for PgC, PgD or MSc courses which have direct relevance to the meat and livestock industry.  

For both undergraduates and postgraduates, preference will be given to those candidates who have family or employment links with the meat and livestock industry or who have an intention of seeking employment in the industry.

Successful scholarship recipient(s) will receive a bursary of up to £5,000 per academic year of full-time study at Harper Adams University.

 Applications must be received by noon on June 15, 2015. 

These are competitive awards and will be evaluated on the merit of the applicant and his or her application, along with their academic achievements to date. The decision of the BDCI Bursary Committee is final.
