Barbecue party farewell for international students

    Posted 28 May 2015

    Pamela Thompson, International Officer, reports:

Following on from the success of the International Dinner held at Harper Adams University earlier this year, a number of students approached the international officers for help to organise a social event to say “au revoir” to many of our international students who will be returning to their home countries after their last exam.

The event was not only a fantastic opportunity for the students who are soon to complete their studies at Harper Adams to meet for one last time in such a large group, but also to offer advice and friendship to newly-arrived international research students. It was also an opportune moment to wish the students good luck for the future, all while enjoying some barbecue food and music!

A number of departments came together to ensure the success of the event from catering providing the hog roast, the grounds team organising the venue (The Cricket Pavilion), the Students’ Union jointly funding the event with the International Student Support Office and the international officers and students who helped decorate the pavilion.

The UK might not be best known for its glorious weather, but the rain held off while more than 100 students from more than 20 countries attended the event. They included students on EU Masters, Erasmus, joint undergraduate/postgraduate programmes with China, members of the SU executive, students who took part in the exchange programme to Beijing 2014 and those due to take part in July 2015, PhD students and researchers.
