Student works towards science award

A student from a Shropshire school has completed a research project at Harper Adams University that will help him to stand out from the crowd when applying for Sixth Form College.
15-year-old Michael Cooper, who is currently enrolled at Burton Borough School, has been working on a research project as part of his application for the British Science Association CREST Award scheme.
He hopes that the Silver level award will give him the edge over other students when applying for a place to study for his A Levels.
The CREST Award schemes are a range of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) enrichment activities aimed at inspiring 5-19 year-olds. The middle award is Silver level and allows able students aged 14-16 to conduct real research projects.
For his project, Michael has been investigating the sheer characteristics of soil samples.
He has been assisted by the university's laboratory staff and technicians.
