Harper Adams student appeals for donations to foodbank

    Posted 10 June 2016

“I’ve always wanted to do something to help, and this is a way of giving back.”

    Sami Taylor

Final year student Sami Taylor is appealing for fellow students and staff to donate to the local foodbank in Newport.

The 22-year-old, from Southport, Merseyside, said: “There will be a cardboard box in the Faccenda reception for people to put their bags of food in.”

“We take anything that is non-perishable, for example tins of soup, cartons of fruit juice and cereal, and it needs to be unopened. Toiletries are always useful as well.

“I first got involved in the foodbank when I came back from my work placement, and realised that I had a lot of spare food in my house.

“I found out about it through my church. My friends and I did a collection and it grew from there.”

“I’ve always wanted to do something to help, and this is a way of giving back.”

More than one million people in the UK now use food banks.

“The foodbank is based in this area and anyone who needs it can access it; it mainly goes to young families, but people such as students can also benefit from it.

“The community gives us a lot so it would be nice to give back to them, particularly as students. It’s good to strengthen links with the wider community and show that students contribute positively to it.

“This is a great time of year for students to donate as they are clearing out their residences for the summer.”

Sami is currently studying for a BSc (Hons) Veterinary Nursing and Practice Management.
