"I’m very interested in animals and so it’s the perfect place to come."
Harper Adams University student Laura-Jane Bacon is currently studying on the Extended Foundation Degree Programme (EFDP) Animal Management and Welfare route after applying via Clearing.
She now plans to use the EFDP as a stepping stone to studying bioveterinary science and leading to a future career of working with animals.
“I’d decided before results day that I didn’t want to go and study the course at the university I’d originally applied to and only found out about Harper Adams a few days before A-level results were released.
“When I first opened my A-levels, I was a bit disappointed but I went straight onto the Harper website and found courses that I was interested in and applied through the Clearing system.
“Joining Harper through Clearing didn’t put me at a disadvantage and doesn’t make a difference to your studies; it’s just another way of entering university.
“I’m very interested in animals and so it’s the perfect place to come and be around them as the courses are more practical.
“My highlight since joining Harper was definitely Freshers’ Week because I was quite introverted when I started and the whole process helped me to make friends and got me out of my comfort zone, and really helped me personally.”
All of the undergraduate courses at Harper Adams include an industry placement year, on this Laura-Jane said: “I think it’s really good to have a placement year as it provides more hands on experience and also allows you to travel to different places, which interests me. It also looks good to employers in the future when you’re applying for jobs.”
The Harper Adams Clearing hotline is: 01952 81 5000 and is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm.
