British Poultry Council scholarships offer international travel

Just two days left to apply for the amazing placements with scholarships offered by the following companies participating in the British Poultry Council scholarship scheme:

• Aviagen

• Gressingham
• Moy Park

The scholarship scheme, which is open to Year 2 degree students and Year 1 FdSc students, offers a paid placement plus £4,500 in the year prior to placement and the potential to extend funding to the final year subject to a review with the sponsoring company following placement.   

Two of the companies offering scholarships with a paid placement year have included the opportunity for international travel as part of the placement year.

Scholarship students enjoying a work placement at Moy Park will gain invaluable experience and insight into the day to day operations of the Agricultural division as well as spending 3 months with parent company 'Pilgrims' in the USA. The successful student will have the option of being based with the GB Agriculture team, located at the Ashbourne or Anwick site, or with the NI team & will involve travel between site locations & farms as necessary to complete the role.  If the successful student has particular areas of interest; the programme can be flexible and there will be opportunity to agree a ‘bespoke’ placement in order to accommodate your interests/preferences.

Aviagen offers a structured Student Placement Programme which is detailed on the placement job listing on the student dashboard.  Throughout your placement, you will combine real responsibility for work activities together with an opportunity to learn a range of skills and techniques in poultry husbandry. There will also be support to enable you to deliver any project work as part of your academic course. You will be mentored by a senior managers throughout the placement.  The final months of the placement will be spent in one of Aviagen's overseas facilities.  Here is Philip Gillespie talking about his placement experience.

At Gressingham, research and breeding programmes are high on the agenda and they are able to offer a variety of career paths, spanning farm management, hatchery management and technical management. The placement role could involve one specialist role for the whole 12 months, or three 4-month rotations spanning duck breeding, commercial duck growing and seasonal poultry (turkey and goose). This would depend largely on the student, their interests and the needs of the business at the time.

Avara is a leading supplier of chicken, turkey and duck products in the UK retail and food service sectors. They own and manage their entire supply chain, from farms, through to processing factories and their distribution network. Multiple scholarships with placement are on offer.
