    6 November 2017

Outstanding opportunity with Cargill’s meat business in Hereford!

Funding towards tuition fees valued at £4500 payable in your 2nd year plus a paid work placement year! Potential to extending funding to the final year.

Cargill offers this opportunity annually in association with the British Poultry Council to a student on an agriculture related course at Harper Adams University.  The programme will equip you with the skills and experience to help you achieve a successful career in agriculture.

Here’s what Dominic Lucas, now back in his final year at Harper Adams, had to say about his experience:

“I have had an amazing first couple of months working with Cargill. During my first week, I was able to see the whole supply chain from the start where the laying birds are being reared right through to the chickens being processed. The scale of the supply chain was quite overwhelming but has enabled me to appreciate how important each part of the supply chain is.

“The first two months were spent on a laying farm where I gained extensive knowledge of poultry husbandry and egg grading. I thoroughly enjoyed being on the laying farm as there was lots to do and I was able to get involved in many different tasks on the farm. I then moved onto a rearing farm which rears the chickens for the laying farm I was on. It was been great to see the work which goes on to prepare the chickens for point of lay.

“I have been able to attend many meetings involving the management team both in the office and on the farm. Cargill have also been able to put me through various courses including my poultry passport.

“I am looking forward to the rest of my placement where I will spend three months at the Hatchery and three months on one of Cargill’s grow out farms. During my final three months, I will be able to choose which areas I would like to work in.”
