University hosts regional IFST lecture event

Harper Adams University had the honour of hosting the West Midlands regional event for the Institute of Food Science and Technology’s Jubilee Lecture last week. 

This year, for the first time, the IFST Annual Lecture was streamed to 6 UK regional centres to allow a greater audience to be involved in the final celebration of its 50-year anniversary.

University governor Christine Snell hosted the West Midlands event in the Regional Food Academy at Harper Adams, organised by Senior Lecturer in Food Innovation and Management, Anne Taylor. Anne had just been nominated as IFST Volunteer of the Week. 

She said: “At the jubilee event, a great lecture on Constant Values in a Changing World from Mark Price, CEO of Waitrose, was streamed from The Royal Society in London to 72 attendees at Harper Adams, which the West Midlands regional centre for the IFST.  

“Guests included regional and local business people, IFST members, Harper Adams students and staff and the Deputy Mayor of Telford and Wrekin Council, Councillor Amrik Jhawar and Mrs Jhawar.”

The Regional Food Academy at Harper Adams will tomorrow (Tuesday, November 18) host another IFST event, The Chemistry of Cooking, organised by Senior Lecturer in Food Marketing, Luís de Aguiar. The guest speaker is ‘Magician of Taste’ Dr David Baines, who has 25 years’ experience of working in the food industry. 

Mr de Aguair said: “This will prove to be an extremely fascinating and dynamic master class, appealing to anyone with an interest in the science behind cooking.”
