    Agronomy short courses to improve food supply chain productivity

    Farmers and growers are being encouraged to learn about the latest agri-tech developments and research by attending a series of short courses at Harper Adams University.

    The courses, run by ARTIS training and delivered by top-level agronomists, including those at Harper Adams, aim to increase effectiveness in agriculture and horticulture production in England.

    They focus on five subject areas – soil and water, crop protection, nutrient management, farming systems and practical agronomy.

    Harper Adams Senior Lecturer in Soil and Environmental Science, Paul Lewis, is a trainer for the scheme. He said: “The ARTIS Agronomy Academy scheme is open to growers, farmers and managers in the food supply chain business, to help them to boost productivity through applying the latest agri-tech knowledge and research.

    “Several of the courses provided by the Academy are delivered by staff here at Harper Adams, working as accredited trainers for the scheme. Our facilities are also being used by other trainers too.

    “As well as those delivered at Harper Adams, there is a wide range of courses across the country, for which participants will receive an ARTIS accredited certificate and CPD points.”

    ARTIS is a national training platform led by NIAB and has been developed by G’s Growers, NIAB, LANTRA and East Malling Research, with funding from UK Commission for Employment and Skills.

    Typically, courses are one day’s training, made up of two half-day classroom and/or field-based modules, for up to 15 people.
