Visiting the library
Members of the public may use the Library for reference purposes; please Contact us beforehand to ensure we will be able to help you. Access is only possible during staffed hours.
- Please check our opening hours to ensure we are open and that staff are available.
- Download the campus plan on our Travel Information page to find the Bamford Library.
Borrowing books
If you want to borrow books you may apply to become an external member of the Library; you will then be able to borrow 6 items. All items are issued to you for 7 days in the first instance, then renew automatically each day. The item is always due back in 7 days until someone else requests the item, you have had the item for two months or your membership expires.

SCONUL Access users
Please let us know when you are planning to visit us. Using the Library is only possible during staffed hours. On your first visit you will need to complete a brief form and will be issued with a library card. If you are a SCONUL Access scheme member you will need to bring an email confirming scheme membership and your ID card from your academic institution.
