Loxley, the specialist rural law firm, is pleased to announce that it will be launching a new scholarship for Harper Adams University Students.
“The Loxley Scholarship”, will award one successful student a one-off amount of £2,500 towards their studies. The new scholarship will be awarded annually to a different student, in their 2nd or 4th year of a Land and Property Management or Farm Business Management undergraduate degree course at Harper Adams University.
To apply for this opportunity to become the inaugural Loxley Scholar, students are challenged with answering the following question in their covering letter.
“If you were Secretary of State for Defra, which law would you change and why?”
Loxley is a specialist agricultural and rural law firm with a particular focus on property, acting for clients across England and Wales. Partner, Andrew Baskerville, himself a graduate of Harper Adams, acknowledges the grounding that his time at Harper Adams gave him.
He said: “The route into the law has changed significantly over the years, as many firms, such as our own, recognise the advantages that graduates from different disciplines can bring. My time at Harper Adams prepared me very well for a career as a lawyer, and all the wide-ranging skills that you require, not just to practise law, but in running a business. It provided me with the knowledge and confidence to deal with a wide-range of clients and issues throughout the agricultural and rural spectrum. With this new scholarship, we hope as a firm to inspire other graduates to consider a career in law, and to see the opportunities that are available in this field. Loxley is delighted to support Harper Adams students with the scholarship.”
Doris Taylor, Head of Development at Harper Adams University, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Loxley as a new scholarship sponsor. It is wonderful to see Andrew Baskerville, as a Harper alumnus, and his fellow partners at Loxley supporting students at Harper Adams University who are starting out in their careers by offering this excellent opportunity. In doing so they are not only offering valuable support, but they are also highlighting career opportunities available to them within the law sector.”
