    Hospitality Scholars thank staff

    2 May 2018

The Harper Adams University Hospitality Scholarship is funded entirely by tips and gratuities given to staff in the Catering Department and Conference office. Second year Agri-food Marketing with Business Studies student Sarah Morrell was the successful recipient in 2017/18 and fourth year Agri-business student Reuben Wilson was the 2015/16 scholar. They both came along to the Catering staff meeting yesterday to pass on their thanks to staff whose generosity has made the scholarship possible.

The Hospitality Scholarship is open to all second year BSc or final year FdSc students studying Food related or Agri-business related courses at the University, with the successful recipient receiving up to £1,500.

Reuben, who is now in his final year at Harper Adams, explained how the scholarship funds had helped him with accommodation costs prior to starting his placement in the London area. He thanked the staff members who had given their tips, adding that the award had contributed to him not needing to take a job in his crucial final year.

Sarah is due to start her placement as a Policy and Technical Officer for the Ulster Farmers Union this summer. Her scholarship has meant that she can get her laptop repaired and it will be a huge benefit to her in assisting her with travel costs for her placement year.
